糯米灌肠

One of my favourite dish from my mom is 糯米灌肠 (loosely translated as Pig's Intestine stuffed with Glutinous Rice). Some people may feel disgusted upon hearing the word "intestine", but to me, heh heh, it's extremely yummy... ;-)

It's a rare opportunity that I got one stuffed intestine from my mom today. She hardly cooks the dish because she's into healthy eating now and also, to clean the intestine is a tedious process that could take up hours! However, after the cleaning process is done, the rest of the cooking steps are quite easy. The glutinous rice that is soaked overnight is mixed with other ingredients like peanuts, dry shrimps, mushroom etc. The ingredients vary everytime she cooks, depending on her mood. Then the glutinous rice mixture is stuffed into the intestines and finally the stuffed intestines are cooked in a pot of boiling water.

I had the dish as my afternoon snack and now I'm eagerly waiting for my mom to cook again...

Hi Mumu,

I don't think it's sold anywhere in Sin. I've eaten that in Taiwan though...

I think they used to sell it at the old tiong bahru market. It's a stall selling zhu zha tang. Used to have long queues. Not sure if it has moved to the new one though.

Very interesting! Here in Panama they fill up the "intestines" with a seasoned blood mixture, which after cooked it becomes the traditional "blood sausage."
Not one of my favorites thou :(

Haha-we here in Texas we call anything stuffed in pig intestine just SAUSAGE!
This would be Sticky Rice Sausage-now doesn't that sound better?
Great site!

Hi Shaz,

Totally agree with u... Not that many ppl can stand the sight/ taste of intestines... ;-)

Hi Sook,

Really! I'm not aware that this dish can be found in Sin. Thanks for the info!

Hi M,

Thanks for dropping by! Oh, I'd like to see how the "blood sausage" looks like, but I don't think I can take it though! :-P

Hi Frank,

Thanks for visiting my blog! Haha, "sticky rice sausage", why didn't I think of that?! :-D

Hi Boo,

hmm... agree with you. I've not seen it in Penang during all those years that I've spent over there. But pig's intestines porridge is very popular in Penang though...

Hi Jun,

My mom used big intestine. It's a pity that we can't find the dish in Sin, isn't it? :-)
