When East Meet West...

I visited a food fair at my workplace, Novena Square recently. Nothing spectacular, there were lots of food stalls selling pasar malam stuff than anything else, much like this food fair at Suntec City. The only item that caught my eyes was a stall selling Japanese seaweed. The stall attracted a lot of attention because the two Taiwanese owners gave free samples of the seaweed that were prepared in different ways. As a self-proclaimed foodie, I had to try it, of course! It actually tasted very good. One of the stall owners explained to me the ways of preparing it. I promptly bought two packets from him!

I had the seaweed with pork and century egg porridge today. The seaweed was rinsed twice and followed by soaking in hot water for about half an hour. It was then tossed with sesame oil and oyster sauce, and served with chopped garlic, chilli, coriander and spring onions. Simple and yet yummy!

After a savoury oriental style lunch, the dessert of the day was Tamarind Soufflés, a recipe found in Feb/ Mar issue of Vogue Entertaining + Travelling. The soufflés raised beautifully but it sank as soon as it left the oven. So that explained the picture... a spoonful of soufflés, trying to cover up my disappointment. ;-)
