TWD: Chocolate-Chocolate Cupcakes

After declaring to the whole world (or those who bother to read my blog :-P) that I don't like chocolate cakes, I have to eat my words and let you know what I did today - I had four of these chocolate cupcakes in the span of half a day. (gasp!)

I baked these cupcakes for my hubby who is a big fan of chocolate desserts, and also to take part in TWD this week. As some of the participants commented that the cakes are too dry, I made sure that mine won't dry out by monitoring the baking time closely, and I pulled out both trays of cakes at exactly 22 minutes. The cupcakes turned out great, soft and moist, and REALLY yummy.

After having the fourth one, I packed the rest of the cakes up, and just like the fate of this cake, they will end up in the tummies of my hubby's colleagues tomorrow. ;-)

I guess you might notice that the fondant flowers did not stick to the ganache. I should've arrange the flowers right after the ganache was piped to the cakes, but I put them aside to set up my tripod instead. Probably due to the aircon in the kitchen, the ganache has turned hard by the time I was done. So I had to let the flowers "sat" on the ganache while I took pictures of the cakes, and hoping that they won't drop at the same time. The fondant are not meant to be eaten anyway, and I like how my cupcakes look with the little flowers.

If you want to try making your own chocolate cupcakes, head over to CB's blog for recipe!

Beautiful fondant flowers! How did you pipe the ganache so perfectly too?

All - Thanks so much for your comments! :-)

Barbara & Hillary - Wilton website has lots of good decorating tips, I learned the basics of piping from there. http://www.wilton.com/decorating/decorating-basics/

JC - Thanks! I use photoshop to edit my pics. :-)

Beautiful cupcakes and beautiful photos. Lots of fun comments with good friends. Yippee!! A tri-pod sounds like a great idea for this new blogger. Thanks for the idea. I've read other places that you can give your ganache a blast from a hair dryer to sort of warm it up and make it shine. So so so....wonder if that would make it sort of help your fondant flowers stick? Might be worth a try sometime. Although I know one doesn't really partake in the painstaking work it takes to create them by eating the beauties. oops

Hi,
This cupcakes look very pretty! May I know whether the cupcakes can be stored in the fridge or room temperature?
Kitchen Corner said…
oppss forgot to ask, can I have the chocolate toppings recipe please?
Piggy said…
Hi Kitchen Corner,

Yes, the cupcakes can be stored in the fridge. Before serving, just warm up in the microwave oven for about 10 seconds, and the cupcakes are soft and fluffy again.

As for the glaze on the cupcake, the recipe is also provided in the link I provided. :-)
Kitchen Corner said…
Hi,
I'm a bit confuse of the original recipe for the chocolate glaze. I saw your cupcakes topping more like chocolate garnache. Kindly advise please. Many thanks!
Piggy said…
Hi Kitchen Corner,

The recipe provided in the link was copied directly from the book. It is called "glaze" in the recipe, but at the same time, the author of the book also described it as "ganache".

Hi Piggy,
Thanks very much for clarify! When you mentioned the cupcakes can be stored in the fridge, do you mean store the cupcakes which fill with the garnache? Can I warm the cupcakes topped with chocolate garnache in the oven as well?
Piggy said…
Hi Kitchen Corner,

Yes, to both of your questions. Just to clarify, I warmed the cupcakes in the microwave, instead of the oven which is used for baking cakes. I hope I don't confuse you further. :-P
