TWD: Banana Cream Pie

I've been on a tart-making craze recently, and so I'm glad that Amy of Sing for Your Supper has chosen banana cream pie for TWD this week!

I used Dorie's sweet tart dough recipe and a 6-inch tart pan to make the crust. Then I made half a batch of the custard and cream, which is just enough to fill the pie. Even though the cream looked a bit thin on the pie, but it didn't bother me that much, since I'm not that crazy over having lots of cream in my dessert or pastry anyway. I think banana pairs well with chocolate, and so I sifted some cocoa powder on the cream just before serving.

Well, if you ask me, I'd say that this is an awesome recipe. The combination of banana and slightly spiced custard tasted REALLY good. If you want to give the recipe a try, head over to Amy's blog.

Beautiful photo! Good idea about the tart dough.
I wish that I would have used a tart shell instead of the pie crust. Mine still probably wouldn't look as nice as yours does though! Great job.

Now I am really inspired to bake this pie! Yours really made my mouth water. I noticed that the recipe for the pie dough requires vegetable shortening. Wondering if you have any advice for its replacement as I am rather wary of trans fat. Thanks!
