"Instant" Ice-cream

I have a bad habit of buying ingredients for cooking, dry or canned food or anything fanciful that happens to come my way when I don't really need it. As a result, my kitchen cabinet is almost bursting with all sorts of food. Hence I have to spend some time every week checking through the expiry dates on all the packets of the food that I have. Not a wise thing to do but I just can't help it!

This is one good example of my silly purchase. It's an instant Green Tea Ice-cream pack by Nissin. I bought it few months ago, during a shopping trip to Meidi-ya with my sister-in-law, J. As usual, I totally forgot about it. All of a sudden, it just appeared in front of me when I was searching for some snacks to nibble. So I thought I better finish it up before I forget about it again...

As with other instant food, the ice-cream was pretty easy to prepare. There were instructions at the back of the pack. Unfortunately, I can't read Japanese at all. But I was able to read a few of chinese characters sandwiched between japanese words and with the help of the pictures, I managed to figure out the additional ingredients (milk and egg yolk) required and the preparation steps.

The ice-cream actually tasted good, it was smooth and creamy and with a strong green tea flavour. What a pleasant surprise! I had fun both preparing and eating the ice-cream, but I don't think I would buy it again. Making ice-cream from scratch is more challenging, isn't it?

Lucky you! I can't read chinese so I can never figure out the Japanese instructions. It is a lot of effort but it does look yummy.
