India Trip - Part III

Alphonso mango is in season now. Mango stalls like the picture below can be seen everywhere in Mumbai.

I could smell the sweet aroma of the mangoes everytime I walked past a mango stall. I was really curious to find out if it's any good, or whether they are comparable to the mangoes from the Philippines. There is only way to find out is to try one, so I bought one mango. Standing over bathroom sink in my hotel room, I peeled off the mango skin with my bare hands (Too lazy to ask for knife from hotel staff) and ate it with a spoon. Wow, the Alphonso mango was really tasty, probably the best mango that I've taken so far. It is sweet, juicy, with very few fibres and very strong aroma too...

I couldn't have enough of the mango, so I bought another two to savour in the hotel the next day. Also featured in the picture below are two small bottles of jam that came with the breakfast that I ordered from room service in the morning. The flavour of the jams was pretty unique... Apple & cinnamon and pineapple & green pepper.

oooh im so jealous! i love alphonsos, though it will be a bit before we get decent mangoes here in the us.
God, I'm jealous too! Mangoes might possibly be one of my favorite foods in the entire world. And your pictures and descriptions have me in Mango Fantasyland. but I've never had an alphonso. My favorite has always been the Philippine mango--haven't tasted anything better... but maybe I have to go to India and try an alphonso...
